Repatriation and several challenging years as a 'stay-at-home partner' back in the UK with the children followed life overseas , whilst her husband continued working on short term assignments abroad. The dual challenge of repatriation and the new role of 'stay-at-home partner' was a steep learning curve and, combined with the lack of available resources, it motivated Marian to research and write her first book 'Alone at Home' . Her aim in writing this book was to explore the impacts of short term assignments on the family, as well as creating something tangible, a practical tool and support for those experiencing this particular lifestyle.

Alone at home is Marian's first book, and is now available through the website. She already has extensive experience writing for expatriate magazines, newspapers and specialist websites. Interviewed by Jenni Murray on Radio 4 and the Wall St Journal, she also presents on expatriate issues at Farnham Castle Training Centre, England. Marian will be speaking on this subject at the Families in Global Transition Conference ( www.figt.org ) to be held in Houston at the end of March.
